Y.E.S. to College is an advocacy and mentorship program that provides support to non-traditional college students in the Austin area. We offer one-on-one volunteer tutoring support to help our students find academic success in their coursework. Volunteer tutors are needed to assist students in a number of academic disciplines. The need is especially great for tutors in all levels of mathematics (from elementary algebra to advanced statistics and calculus). If you feel that you have a proficiency in a given academic discipline and would like to help teach others, please consider this wonderful opportunity to help a student reach their college goals.

Duties: |
Volunteers are asked to meet one-on-one with students at least once per week. Schedules and meeting locations will be determined between the tutor and student according to availability and will be approved by the Y.E.S. to College Case Manager. Tutors are asked to make a 1 semester commitment with at least 1 student. Volunteers may choose to tutor in a broad range of subjects or to specialize in the academic discipline of their choice.

Qualifications: |
We welcome all volunteers aged 18 and up who are currently attending, have attended, or have graduated from college. Must be able to demonstrate academic success in college coursework and a desire to teach others. Please indicate in what subject areas you would be willing to tutor (reading/writing, math-all subjects, history, science, humanities). All tutors will be provided with an orientation and pre-service training as well as additional training and support as they tutor. No prior experience is required, but preference will be given to college graduates with specializations in education or a given field.
